The history of the mill with oil of Millas, created in 1920 and become the Olive-growing Co-operative La Catalane in 1941, falls under an olive-growing long tradition whose origins go back to highest antiquity.
Its installations, constantly maintained to the forefront of technological advancements, make it possible to work out a product of great quality to which the prices and medals testify gained in various contests. In Languedoc Roussillon to be only had the Sinoléa process, the mill with oil of Millas is able to produce various oils, of most traditional with, most original: what it is agreed to call in technical terms, the Fleur of Olive.
Today the mill, develops its activities around olive, of oil and its derivatives in particular by demonstrations, tastings and animations open to all.
The shop of the co-operative makes it possible to visit the site, to discover Catalan oleiculture and to taste our oils.
They are the fruit of rigorous selections, and malicious assemblies of varieties which confer varied savors to them. The "Ardente", the "Fruitée", "Douceur", Verdale, Olivière are as many names which, bathed sun, reflect the artisanal side of their transformation. These oils, resulting from olives of our department, are presented side by side with the derivatives resulting from our production: cosmetics, olives, tapenades….
Its small instructive museum, its workshop of production open to the public and its guided visits combining tourism of soil and artisanal tourism, make a dynamic and instructive structure of it.
TO PRODUCE DIFFERENTLY
Our co-operators are the members of the co-operative: they are at the same time the contributors of capital and the contributors of the raw material which it transforms and markets.
The co-operative is founded on values of democracy, of promotion of the men, mutualism and equity. It ensures the transmission of a collective inheritance from generation to generation, and is a development pole not délocalisable which fixes in our territory added-value and employment.
In our company, the human one is in the middle of the project. The principle of the mutualisation of the goods and the services makes it possible each one to create its own activity with lower costs. What contributes to the equal opportunity.
TO CONSUME DIFFERENTLY
Our producers propose to the purchasers to give direction to their purchases.
They thus regard their customers as “consom' actors”.
They propose to them to contribute to the development of the social economy and interdependent, established in this area, to share with them the concern of sustainable development, to share these values with the producers and, with their parents and friends with whom they will taste these products or, with which they will offer them.
